Appel à comm. : “Crossing Seas, Crossing Cultures” (Croisades), univ. de Porto (Portugal), 29 juin-3 juillet 2026 (limite : 15/11/2025)

Proposals for sessions of three 20-minute papers each, for individual papers and for round tables are welcome. Themes could include, but are not limited to:

    • Politics, Religion and Culture
    • Women and Gender
    • The Muslim World and the Crusades
    • New Sources, New Interpretations
    • Art, Archaeology and Material Culture
    • Military History

 

Paper proposals should consist of a title, an approximately 150 to 200-word abstract, five keywords, the author´s name and affiliation and a brief biographical note (100 words).

Session proposals should include the title of the session, an approximately 150 to 200-word abstract, the title and a brief abstract for each participant’s paper, the author´s name and affiliation and a brief biographical note for each participant (100 words).

Round Table proposals should include a title, an abstract (150 to 200 words), the names, affiliations and a short biographical note of the participants.

Applications for sessions, papers and roundtables must be received at SSCLEconference@gmail.com from 15th September 2025 to 15th November 2025.

Presentations should be a maximum of 20 minutes and in English (not mandatory, but preferred).

All speakers must be members of the SSCLE. If you are not a member, please apply HERE.

The SSCLE conference will be in a hybrid form – that is, in-person and online, for the benefit of those who are unable to travel to Portugal. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage those planning to speak at the conference to aim to deliver their paper in person.

As in previous conferences, the SSCLE will be offering bursaries to research students, postdoctoral fellows, contingent faculty and researchers without access to institutional funding, and other conference participants who have limited means. See conference website for further details.

We will also offer a prize for the best paper presented by a doctoral student; again, see the conference website for further details.

 

Normally, there will be a maximum of three sessions in any strand.
