‘Music in Words: the Manuscript Tradition of the Middle East’
The Islamic Manuscript Association, in collaboration with the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, is pleased to announce a lecture by Professor Owen Wright entitled 'Music in Words: the Manuscript Tradition of the Middle East'. Owen Wright is Research Professor of Musicology of the Middle East at the School of Oriental and African Studies, and has published widely on this subject. This free public lecture will offer an introduction to the study of Middle Eastern musical manuscripts, focusing on Arabic, Turkish and Persian examples and including selected sound recordings. The lecture will take place at 6.30pm on Thursday 23 May at the Royal Asiatic Society, 14 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2HD. Refreshments will be offered after the lecture.
