CFP: 7th Early Medieval Archaeology Student Symposium, 20-22 mai 2013, Univ. of Chester

The EMASS conference is coming to Chester next May.  The first call for papers is now available.
The deadline for submission is March 4th 2013.

Conference registration will open on March 11th 2013.

We are delighted to announce that the first call for papers for the Early Medieval Archaeology Student Symposium (EMASS), to be held at the University of Chester, is now open. EMASS is a popular, friendly arena for postgraduate researchers specialising in archaeological and interdisciplinary approaches to the early medieval period in Europe and further afield. We also welcome contributions from researchers contextualising what has been traditionally demarcated as ‘early medieval’ by addressing ‘transitional phases’ either side of AD 4th-12th centuries.

There is no limit to the scope of physical evidence available for discussion. As well as traditional fields of early medieval research, we encourage submissions focussed on the intellectual history and scholarship surrounding early medieval archaeology. Recent discoveries and relevant methodological, theoretical and scientific innovations are similarly encouraged. Chester EMASS also welcomes papers engaging with the use and perception of early medieval evidence in contemporary society through community-led projects, museum-based studies, commercial ventures, and various ethical considerations, amongst many other research avenues.

While EMASS has a history of warmly welcoming early medieval researchers from around the world, please note this is an English language conference.

Individual Papers: 20 minutes long followed by a 10 minute discussion
