In the frame of the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Dutch Association for the Study of Religion (NGG) at the University of Groningen on 25-26 October 2012 (theme: "Religion and Social Cohesion: Challenges and Perspectives"), a panel will be devoted to Classical Islam: "Classical Islam: Cohesion, Society, Religion." Chair: Prof. Christian Lange (University of Utrecht). - "The Emergence of Islam: Continuity or Discontinuity?", Dr. Gert Borg (Radboud University, Nijmegen); - "The Continuation of the Umma in Jeopardy: Did Muhammad Indicate His Successor During His Illness?", Dr. Nicolet N.A. Boekhoff-van der Voort (Radboud University, Nijmegen); - "The Construction of the Religious Affiliation in the Qur'anic Text", Dr. Anne-Sylvie Boisliveau (University of Groningen); - "The Islamization of Egypt, 7th-10th Centuries", Prof. Yaacov Lev (Bar Ilan University).
