Abstract: Research on Islamic glass in al-Andalus has made significant progress in recent years. The written sources, the typology and the recent analyses of the chemical composition allow to draw first picture of the evolution of their features throughout the seven centuries of Islamic occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. This lecture with a multidisciplinary perspective will present the current State of knowledge on uses, technology and commercialisation of glass in al-Andalus from the earliest stages, dominated by imports from the East, through the appearance of local production around the 11th century and until its extinction after the Christian conquest of Granada at the end of the 15th century.
