“The Qur’an : Text, Translation, and Culture, 2018”

Convenors: Prof. M.A.S. Abdel Haleem and Dr Mustafa Shah

9-10 novembre 2018 à Londres (Brunei Gallery, Room: BGLT)

Deadline : 30 April 2018

Proposals are invited for the Tenth SOAS Conference on the Qur’an, to be held from Friday 9 to Saturday 10 November 2018. The conference series seeks to provide a forum for investigating all aspects of the Qur’an and how it is read and interpreted. Our objective is to encompass a global vision of current research trends, and to stimulate discussion, debate, and research on all aspects of the Qur’an.

Contributions on all topics relevant to Qur’anic studies are welcomed, but for this year’s session we have a particular interest in papers in the following areas:

  • rhetorical aspects of the Qur’anic text
  • the textual history of the Qur’an
  • literary approaches to the Qur’an
  • the Qur’an in translation
  • the Qur’an and the legal tradition
  • the Qur’an and ethics

The final conference programme will take account of the range of proposals actually accepted.

Selected papers will be published as articles in the Journal of Qur’anic Studies, subject to standard outside refereeing. Speakers are expected to give priority to JQS when publishing these papers.

Submission of Abstracts:

The deadline for abstracts is 30 April 2018. Abstracts of up to 400 words and a short bio (of up to 200 words) should be submitted in MS Word format to quran.conference@soas.ac.uk.

Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposals on 15 June 2018.
